What is The Original kombucha?
The Original is the flavour that set the template for the whole Life Blood range. Crisp, clean and citrus-led, with a bright, moreish finish. No artificial sweeteners, still only 39 calories a can. The flavour comes entirely from the hops used in the brew, real hops, a genuine citrus character.
Where does the character come from?
The Original is built on Citra, a hop bred in Washington State and released to brewers in 2008. It's now one of the most widely grown hop varieties in the world, prized for grapefruit, lime and tropical fruit notes with real depth behind them. Brewers reach for it when they want a beer that's bright and unmistakably citrus. We reached for it for exactly the same reason.
Why we chose it first
Citra was the obvious place to start. It's the hop that helped define an entire generation of pale ales and IPAs, and it does the same job in kombucha: clean, citrus-forward, nothing muddy about it. It became the template for how we build every other flavour in the range, pick a hop for what it can do, and let it do all the talking.
