Where does the name Lemondrop come from?
Lemondrop is a real hop, bred in the United States by Hopsteiner, a cross of Cascade and a hop known as USDA 19058. It earned its name for one simple reason: it smells and tastes like a lemon drop sweet. Brewers describe it as clean lemon zest, a touch of mint, green tea, and a soft melon note underneath. Some have called it "super Cascade", high praise in hop circles.
Why we chose it first
When we started testing hop varieties for our kombucha, Lemondrop was the interesting choice. Most hops are bred for beer, built for standing up to malt and bittering a pint. Lemondrop is different, an aroma hop built for a citrus punch with barely any bitterness at all. Drop it into a kombucha base and that lemon character comes through clean and bright. It worked first time. We haven't changed it since, because why would we?
